چکیده
To ensure food security on sustainable basis, reducing weeds interference and boosting land use efficiency are critical. A field study was conducted at research farm of University Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan, to sort out the most productive maize-gram intercropping system under semi-arid environment. Treatments included sole maize in single row (60 cm apart) (T1) double rows (90 (T2) strips, black (T3) green gram (T4) crops, six with twelve (20 cm) (T5) (T6), three sets quadratic (T7) (T8). The experiment executed regular arrangement randomized complete block design replications. results revealed that T1 produced highest grain yield (6.97 t ha−1) significantly lower infestation compared wider spacing (T2). Among systems, T8 decreased density (16.33 plants m−2) their fresh (20.93 g dry weights (5.63 m−2), while maximum as indicated by unmatched equivalent ratio advantage were recorded T7 T8. Interestingly, over 58% higher productivity than gram. We conclude maize-green hold potential impart sustainability production (431% maize) could be a viable option for smallholder farmers

Effect of Water and Nitrogen Management on Water Productivity and Nitrogen Use Efficiency of Wheat in a Semi-arid Environment
A field experiment was carried out during 2009-11 on a sandy loam soil of IARI, New Delhi on wheat with four levels of irrigation (rainfed, irrigations to replenish 30, 60 and 100% moisture deficit from field capacity) as main plot factors and four levels of nitrogen (0, 30, 60 and 120 kg N/ha) as subplot factors in a split plot design. The soil moisture storage in the profile showed inverse re...

Exploring the relationship between land use and surface water quality using multivariate statistics in arid and semi-arid regions
The relative impacts of different types of land use on the surface water quality are yet to be ascertained and quantified. In this paper, the influence of different types of land use on surface water quality is investigated. Rain events samples from different land use in the central plateau, Iran, were analyzed for major ions. Statistical analyses were employed to examine the statistical relati...
متن کاملMaize-grain legume intercropping for enhanced resource use efficiency and crop productivity in the Guinea savanna of northern Ghana
Smallholder farmers in the Guinea savanna practise cereal-legume intercropping to mitigate risks of crop failure in mono-cropping. The productivity of cereal-legume intercrops could be influenced by the spatial arrangement of the intercrops and the soil fertility status. Knowledge on the effect of soil fertility status on intercrop productivity is generally lacking in the Guinea savanna despite...

Land degradation is a major danger which restricting different areas of Iran. Systematic description of the environmentfor detection of environmental changes and the human-related causes and responses is essential in land cover changestudy. Use of land cover data allow detection of where certain changes occur, what type of change, as well as how theland is changing. Existing systems for classif...
